Young Workers Residence and Nursery school, Porte des Lilas Paris (20ᵉ)
Located on the edge of Paris’20th district, at the Porte des Lilas, “the building stands out first for its style and texture”. Encompassing several project elements, its density is a reflection of the focused rationality of the plans, with a Parisian approach to outline spelled out in its retreating upper floors.
Two fracture lines dissect the monolith’s mineral skin of black brick, revealing a precious interior. These two exhalations work both at the city level, and from the perspective of internal use. The first is horizontal, created by an open-sided 3rd floor, and accommodates all the communal amenities (multimedia facility, sports hall…) arranged freely across this panoramic platform above the city. The second is a vertical fault-line, bringing natural light to both horizontal and vertical public areas. This means the communal spaces at the heart of the building are bathed in light and wide open to the urban landscape.
