Bruneseau School, Housing and Retail, Paris (13e)
This project is located in a very dense urban and infrastructural environment. Multiple programmes combine in great compactness (housing, school, car parks, shopping facilities, common spaces). As a true urban signal, the building offers three façades onto the adjacent streets, providing entries to the various programmes. The housing tower is situated on the north side of the plot, in order to avoid any cast shadows on the school, which benefits from visual perspectives and maximum sunlight. The tower does not use the whole buildable volume, and provides a green rooftop terrace, accessible to all users. The floor-through apartments offer 2m-wide long balconies, equipped with modular screens. The school (ground floor and first floor) opens onto a patio-courtyard in the heart of the block. It is thus protected from pollution and noise, and yet open towards the city through transparent facilities on the ground floor (hall, courtyard, catering). The apartments benefit from a soothing view on the rooftop gardens, part of which are used as children pedagogical spaces. The different scales of green interventions confer the building the image of a lush setting. This true green bower glows way beyond its block.
